My attempts at appropriating a language and its alphabet through its graphic visual expression.
محاولاتي للاستيلاء على لغةٍ وأبجديتها من خلال تعبيرها المرئي والغرافيكي.

Lara Assouad is a graphic and type designer with a particular interest in the relation between Arabic and Latin scripts and multicultural identities. She has a Bachelors in Graphic Design from the American University of Beirut and a research MA in Arabic scripts and type design from the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy, France.
Lara was one of the selected artists for Jameel Prize 4 in 2016 for her Modular Arabic Typography project.
In 2019, she had her first solo exhibition 'alphabets' at GreyNoise gallery Dubai; An exploration of the physicality and symbolism of the Arabic alphabet, its modularity and rhythm beyond its function as language and cultural signifier.
لارا أسود مصممة غرافيكية ومصممة خطوط طباعية، لها اهتمام خاص بالعلاقة بين النصوص العربية واللاتينية والهويات المتعددة الثقافات. حصلت على شهادة البكالوريوس في التصميم الجرافيكي من الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت وماجستير بحثي في النصوص العربية وتصميم الخطوط الطباعية من Atelier National de Recherche Typographique في نانسي، فرنسا. كانت لارا واحدة من الفنانين الذين تم اختيارهم لجائزة جميل 4 في عام 2016 عن مشروعها للتيبوغرافيا المعيارية العربية. في عام 2019، أقامت أول معرض فردي لها بعنوان «alphabets» في معرض GreyNoise في دبي، وهو استكشاف مادي ورمزي للأبجدية العربية، بالإضافة الى نمطيتها وإيقاعها بما يتجاوز وظيفتها كلغة ودلالتها الثقافية.
